hard at work. Each summer, Birds Canada welcomes many new and returning
field technicians who are passionate about one goal: helping birds. These incredible individuals often start their days before dawn,
navigating challenging terrain, battling insects, and enduring
unpredictable weather. They do this to collect essential data on bird
populations, with a special focus on endangered and threatened species.
This invaluable research is a key element of our conservation efforts.
Your support is also key to ensuring this work to help birds is possible
throughout the summer!
Here are a few examples of the projects your gift will support:
- In the depths of the Christmas Mountains in northern New Brunswick,
we’re seeking out some of the most elusive and threatened songbirds,
the Bicknell’s Thrush. - In Newfoundland and Ontario, staff and volunteers are surveying
every corner of the province for our two active Breeding Bird
Atlases, crucial for understanding changes in bird populations. - On the prairies, we are working to help grassland birds, a group
experiencing steeper declines than most others due to habitat loss
and changes in land use. - In British Columbia, we’re visiting remote coastal islands to detect
returning seabirds responding to island restoration though the
removal of invasive mammals.
The dedication and hard work of our field staff are essential to
planning and implementing effective conservation actions and policies.
The data they gather informs everything from local conservation
initiatives to large-scale policies, helping to prevent the loss of
species at risk.
However, we do not do this alone. Your support is crucial. By donating
to Birds Canada now, you will help support these important projects and
address the greatest needs of birds. Your generosity will ensure that
our field teams have the resources they need to continue their vital
work and that Birds Canada can respond to emerging challenges in bird
conservation.
P.S. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Together,
we can ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the beauty
and song of Canada’s diverse bird species.
