The Personal Eight
UNDERSTANDING THE P8 PROFILE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT
We all possess the characteristics associated with the P8 diagram and we are all unique. However, when we begin to assess our responses to the events that occur globally we are challenged to consider how others interpret and act on these events. Frequently our own P8 is questioned or compromised by the actions of others because our biases and experiences have little respect or understanding for those actions, which are taking place in a remote corner of the world. Therefore, we question their importance and impact on our lives at a medium sized community college in Ontario.
One observer of this challenge has come up with the term GLOCAL to describe our relationship, which can be broken down as follows:
Local
LOCAL: meaning that the people and events occurring close to home take precedence because they are part of our daily routine and have an immediate effect on our decisions and lifestyle whether it be family, employment, the weather, health issues, gun control legislation, attending classes & student loans, shopping & celebrating the holidays, watching a hockey game or preparing for a federal election.
Global
GLOBAL: meaning that the people and events that are occurring around the world have an impact on our daily lives because we all live on the same planet. Therefore a war in Iraq and terrorism, environmental concerns, famine in Africa and HIV, the price of oil, growth in the Chinese economy, religious beliefs and avian flu, to name a few INFLUENCE OUR LIVES .
Once-we recognize this connection we will become informed citizens who can research the facts and articulate clearly WHY our lives and the lives of others are both personal and universal according to the P8 diagram.
The P8 starts with
ME > FAMILY > NEIGHBOURHOOD > TOWN >GTA > ONTARIO > CANADA > NORTH AMERICA > THE WORLD
And then back to ME.
Now we can consider the P8 diagram as a starting point to address the issues that influence our lives personally & publicly.

Creative Thinking as a Process for the Artist
I prefer to use the phrase, Creative Thinking and the Fluxist Possibilities that arise for the individual artist as an alternative process to the purely, factual outcome that Dewey’s so-called, Reflective Thinking entails. I have concluded that my P8 has to be included in my own pursuit of a reasonable outcome that has been formulated, using a Creative Thinking Process for the individual, namely their P8:
By placing these eight individual characteristics inside an equally, divided Circle, an individual’s profile becomes the foundation of a creative thinking process that is unique. Then the challenge becomes deciding whether conformity to the standards found in the scientific method (Dewey) are universally, accepted facts or just another approach to an individual’s P8 acceptance of the process.
Now consider the SEs before you begin your Creative Thinking. You need to ask yourself what you are trying to achieve and why. Is it one or more of the following: Entertaining, Educational, Enriching, Enlightening, Everlasting for you alone or when you create & communicate with others? Then the outcome becomes preparing an APFC for the Process, namely Audience/ Purpose/ Form/ Content.
